January

Sunday February 27th 1-3 pm

First Meeting of the Year

Introduction to the year’s scheduled events a welcome to new club members. Get to know each other with short introductions.

Topic to include essential Bonsai tools and how to build your bonsai tool kit to include advanced tools to add as you go. Resources for purchase – Stone Lantern… etc. The importance of sharp, clean tools and storage options. 

Plant stock to be considered for bonsai cut down. Difference between topiary and bonsai potential plant. Resources for purchase and who honors Four Seasons Bonsai Club for discount. Bordine’s offers shopping a rewards program.

Shopping Bordine’s tour from a bonsai perspective. 

A review of pesticides, fertilizersnutrient additives, and dosing for bonsai.


Sunday March 27th 1-3 pm

Soil education. It isn’t dirt!

We will go over specific soil mix recipessiftinggrading, & washing techniques. Soil and rock types, sizes, grades, and applications. Resources for soil components or premixes plus sifting tools and techniques.

Planning for spring plant awakening and repotting. Schedules for evergreen and topicals, and discussion and consideration for personal grow and show bonsai entries for members. Bonsai pot requirements: wire and drain holes along with hole screen wiring and repotting.  

Pots that may be adapted as grow pots. Show pot versus grow pot: Determining transplant timing for show bonsai and grow bonsai. Review of show pots and securing pots prior to transplant due dates. 

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bonsai) but be sure to protect them from the cold. Work on it during our meeting or get direction and suggestions from other members.


Sunday April 24th 1-3 pm

This is a must for anyone new to bonsai and a good review for everyone.

Basic wiring tutorial with techniques, review of types of wire and sources. Bring your own tree for wire wrapping and shaping or a practice tree to work with wire wrapping and styling. Hands on workshop. Do and don’ts and epic wire fails shared. Specific wiring for specialty trees. Advanced wiring techniques demoed.

Advanced wire clamps reviewed. This is a great way to learn how train your trees and make them look professionally wired. Don’t miss it!

May 22nd 1-3 pm

It’s our Annual Member bonsai plant swap meet/auction!!!

B.Y.O.B. to auction. That’s right it’s our auction!!! A large selection of bonsai related items, as well as trees, will be available for you to bid on. Any trees you are no longer interested in, maybe someone else’s dream tree!!! You may also have pots you no longer want or tools. Any bonsai related items will be up for auction. Members are asked to come early and register

their items. The club will appreciate and accept donated auction items to benefit the club, as well as direct auction member to member sales.

Guest bonsai vendor (?) with sale plant stock available. Special requests may be pre-ordered prior to meeting. Bordine’s guest host with plant stock review for bonsai potentials. 


June 26th 1-3 pm

Surprise speaker to be announced!!!

Speaker to review and critic member plants for show potential and troubleshooting, pruning, and shaping techniques. Hands on workshop.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Jack Wikle will be celebrating his 90th Birthday on July 9, 2022 with an In Person and Virtual Auction and an Open House at the Hidden Lakes Garden Bonsai Collection 


July 24th 1-3pm

All about Tropical Bonsai with Ray Zeno!!!

This month we will have our own member, Ray Zeno, talk to us about raising and training topicals for bonsai. Ray has been doing tropicals quite some time and can point you to the correct plants for your collection.

August 28th 1-3 pm

Get Ready, Get Set… for our Member Bonsai Show

Moss and pot presentationside accent plants and pots, display tutorial. Slide show of past shows with general tree reviews. Sign-ups for show set up and responsibilities.

“It’s Show Time”

4 SEASONS BONSAI CLUB’S Member Show

Be sure to attend this grass roots show and enter your trees. See what a fantastic collection of bonsai our club members have been working on. We will have all levels of expertise on display so get ready to be amazed. This is a family friendly event for all


October 23rd 1-3 pm

This month’s topic is winter storage and wrap-up.

Plant winterization techniques and protection for evergreensTropical inside acclimation and added humidity and lighting needs.

A 2022 year-end critique. Idea discussion and suggestions for 2023 calendar events and scheduling.
